Will you raise a calf according to my feed specifications?
Yes, within reason. If you place a deposit on a whole calf we will raise it according to your feed requests. The feed and finish options available are: grass, grain and beer.
What does grass fed mean?
After a calf is weened it will be put out to pasture. It will forage the fields and graze on the grasses.
What does grass finished mean?
The cattle will spend its life in a pasture grazing on the field grasses or being supplemented with alfalfa when necessary.
What does grain fed/finished mean?
The cattle will roam in a pasture and eat the grass, but will also receive grain (usually corn) prior to butchering.
Do you feed the cattle beer?
No and yes. The cattle are fed beer mash, a by-product created by breweries in the refinery process. The mash is a mix of hops, barley and wheat. It is high in protein and fiber and helps create a tender cut of beef. The cattle can also be fed beer. Contact us for specific feed requests and questions.
How do I fill out a cut sheet?
We will send you a link to a google sheet. On the sheet you mark the cuts you want, how many per package, how thick you want your steaks etc. Here is a link to a YouTube video that can be helpful.
